This two-disc compilation is culled from Stefano Molardi’s complete survey of Bach’s organ music released across four volumes in 2014 and as a 15-CD box set in 2015. Although performances are somewhat uneven and occasional choices of registration decidedly quixotic, at his best Molardi is worth hearing and recorded sound is uniformly excellent. Of special interest in a programme of familiar items are the four well-chosen historic organs featured here. All dating from Bach’s lifetime, their contrasted voices lend proceedings a quartet of agreeably authentic accents.
