Here’s a richly satisfying traversal of British songs delivered with consummate feeling and eloquence by the Armonico Consort. Of immediate interest are a number of new arrangements, notably composer-in-residence Toby Young’s luminous treatments of the Welsh lullaby Suo Gân and lilting Irish love song She Moved Through the Fair, with director Christopher Monks’s own take on the Cornish An Rosen Wyn realised with becoming delicacy. Folk song arrangements by Holst, Vaughan Williams, Patrick Hadley and Geoffrey Webber (his infectious Wraggle Taggle Gypsies O!) together with Stanford’s The Blue Bird complete a delightful recital sung with entrancing beauty.
