In the Low Countries, Currende include Giovanni Gabrieli and Chiara Cozzolani in Claudio Monteverdi: Vesperae in Nativitate Domine, featuring five appropriate Psalms from Monteverdi’s posthumous 1650 collection Messa e salmi plus plainsong antiphons. Voices of uneven quality are occasionally over-extended and the recording is not of the most pellucid; nevertheless, it’s a clever programme and, along with the German and English discs, evokes a viva! in celebration of the endless fascination with Venetian music so compelling to today’s performers.
