Hannigan’s breathy, sexy soprano is ideal for these enchanting works, from the early Elegie to enigmatic, Platonic Socrate. She is perfectly matched by de Leeuw, here making a welcome return to Satie on disc. Time magically seems to stand still in a recital that restores Satie’s song output to centre-stage and is hugely to be welcomed.
