A welcome compilation of Dutch Radio recordings from an artist who died much too soon. Tchaikovsky’s Theme & Variations and the eponymous season (Autumn Song, heard here in two recordings, 13 years apart) are warm and spontaneous, while Bartók’s Suite and Prokofiev’s miraculously compact third sonata are slyly humorous rather than blistering. Best of all, though, is a Scarlatti set, poised and poetic, and a deft, imaginative 1987 Miroirs that knocks the socks off most versions. Enthusiastically recommended.
