Raven’s latest release profiles the 2009 III/54 electro-pneumatic Létourneau in Louisville. There is some lovely voicing obvious in the organ: the clearly very broad-scaled cornet décomposé in the Swell, the woody Cremona in the Choir, individual 8ftflues and chorus reeds. And yet the totality is just a bit neutral, the somewhat vertical principal choruses hinting that old-school neo-classicism is still peeking out from behind its grand façade. David Heller, university organist at Trinity University in San Antonio, presents some very standard repertoire (Toccata, Adagio & Fugue, Franck Choral III, Master Tallis’s Testament, excerpts from Brahms op.122) and it’s all perfectly respectable, if not always entirely tidy and without ever getting far beyond the printed text.
