The Hallé’s Christmas Celebration, conducted by Stephen Bell, is 70-plus minutes of choral and orchestral fun from no fewer than three Hallé choirs, as well as the Hallé Orchestra itself. Most of the CD was recorded live and the audience’s enjoy- ment in proceedings is audible. Orchestral favourites include Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride (it’s easy to spot when Santa entered the Bridgewater Hall) and Ireland’s tender Holy Boy.
