Looking at recent releases of medieval music it’s clear that the scene is flourishing in all kinds of interpretive directions. Per anni circulum from the excellent male voice Schola Gregoriana Benedetto XVI of Bologna should be obligatory listening for all would-be chant singers: their fine blend and ensemble and – oh joy – mostly well-released voices lead us round the church’s year with exemplary liturgical credentials, all beautifully recorded.
