Fauré’s sublime, flowing lines and simplicity of harmonic language are a lesson in creativity. The Saint Thomas Choir under their late director John Scott gives a very devout and thoughtful reading to the music, with the Requiem performed in its orig- inal chamber instrumentation. In what must be one of Scott’s last recordings, his well-trained choir with its mature-sounding trebles gives a fine performance of these works; special mention must be made of the excellent young treble soloist, Richard Pittsinger.
