Josef Zeidler wrote his Mass ex D when he was about 25, and what it might lack in subtlety is more than made up for in sheer exuberance. After a long orchestral introduction the work divides into choral sections and solo arias. It’s not an easy ride for the performers, but on this CD they give a stunning interpretation of the music under the inspired conducting of Jerzy Maksymiuk. The soloists blend beautifully together and also execute vocal gymnastics; and the playing of the Sinfonia Varsovia is immaculate, as is the singing of The Katowice Singers Ensemble.
