The enterprising Resonus label plugs another hole in the market with a most intriguing collection. Farr is on inspirational form in repertoire that deserves to be much better known: Leighton’s late, plainsong-inspired Missa de Gloria, for example, could well be his masterpiece. Superbly recorded on three instruments (St Giles’ Edinburgh; St Paul’s Knightsbridge and Symphony Hall Birmingham) and featuring collaborations with artists of the calibre of Chloë Hanslip, Nicky Spence and John Butt, this is an indispensable release.
