Celebrating his 75th birthday earlier this year, Pollini remains a compelling recording artist. Sessions in Munich at different times in the last two years find him in inspiring form, his technique rock-solid, his sense of structure as acute as ever. If occasionally his passionato can seem somewhat impatient (there are moments in both the Barcarolle and Polonaise-Fantasie), the shorter waltzes, nocturnes and mazurkas are beautifully done, each one a miracle of poise and concentration.
