When it comes to performance practice, parts of Germany languish in the quasi-romantic doldrums. With soft-toned tenderness the amateur Alfelder Vokalensemble – homogenous, bland, and breathy – are directed with an overly generous distribution of hairpins, striving with well-intentioned gravitas to showcase Johannes Nucius, a Silesian counter-reformation composer, in a selection of motets framing his Missa Vestiva i colli.
