More fascinating and hitherto obscure stuff– early baroque transalpine treasures, brimming with invention – appears when Voces Suaves explore a musical import-export route between Switzerland and northern Italy in From Bologna to Beromünster: the premiere recording of a Mass and psalm settings by Maurizio Cazzati. The 1692 organ of the Beromünster St Michael Stiftkirche is featured in two solo works by Scherer, but it is the delicate interplay of voices and strings that arrests the listener with its freshness and verve.
