Trpčeski’s approach here is a winning combination of the muscular and the lyrical, finding moments of great beauty in the barnstorming first concerto and knocking the socks offbravura passages in the third. Tempi are often expansive but never lack intensity or freshness and give him opportunity to point out exquisite detail. He is matched by playing of tremendous panache and virtuosity from Petrenko’s players and clear, natural recorded sound. The overture makes a delightful, if hardly generous, makeweight.
