This first release dedicated to the music of Italian Marco Lo Muscio (b.1971) receives eloquent advocacy from Kevin Bowyer. The Willis/ Harrison & Harrison organ of Glasgow University’s Memorial Church sounds wholly sympathetic too, lending gravity and grace to the dramatic, vividly contrasted, half-hour-long, 15-part Via crucis (Stations of the Cross). More deliberately virtuosic is the robustly poetic Concert Variations on Greensleeves, whileTrittico toscano – Homage to Pienza arcs back in part to the renaissance. The remaining miniatures point to a stylistically eclectic and engaging (if not always entertaining) compositional voice.
