Quick off the mark to celebrate Rattle’s new relationship with the orchestra, this release is very impressive. His Ravel has both sumptuousness and bite and, if Delage’s Quatre poems hindous make less of an impression, Bullock has a bright, rich sound perfectly suited to this exotic score. Best of all are two Dutilleux pieces: Metaboles allows every section of the LSO to shine, and Kavakos is nigh-on perfect in L’Arbre des songes. Beautifully filmed, with worthwhile bonus interview material, audio is surprisingly only in stereo format.
