The English Organ School and Museum has built up a valuable collection of organs, harmoniums and harpsichords, and this CD is a wonderful demonstration of the instruments, all played with stylistic authenticity and conviction by Margaret Phillips. Even Bach’s 6-part Ricercar (for harpsichord) is given a convincing performance on the organ (with judicious use of double pedal), and there are some lovely expressive nuances in harmonium pieces by Karg-Elert and Jules Mouquet. Organ repertoire includes pieces by Vincent Lübeck, Pablo Bruna, John Keeble, Samuel Wesley, Hendrik Andriessen, Edward Elgar and Théodore Salomé, with harpsichord pieces by Byrd and Boismortier. Highly recommended.
