Formed in 2000 by Louis Castelain, this incredible French group weaves its magic and casts a spell over the listener with its purity of tone, clarity of lines and phrasing as smooth as silk. All these works come from impeccable scholarship, and the masterly direction of Louis Castelain brings out every nuance and creative genius of Scarlatti’s music. The Messa Clementina is performed according to the ritual of the Sistine Chapel by an ensemble of one voice to a part. Alongside the Mass come two Palestrina works, which at the beginning of the 18th century were also performed as part of the Papal court’s divine offices. Recorded in the excellent acoustics of Saint-Lambert-des Bois, this is a disc to savour and enjoy.
