A nod to a departed diva, Pilar Lorengar, in a film outlining her life from childhood poverty in Zaragoza to fame and fortune as a soprano. A huge favourite in Berlin, where she settled, she was also a big star at the Met. Her soprano had a shimmering vibrato, her personality was warm, her beauty renowned. Talking heads include family, friends and colleagues. It’s a simple film, not overly searching, and more performance footage would have been good, but it does provide a base from which to search out more of this treasurable artist.
