One, or indeed three, I would give a miss is Three Way, by Robert Paterson – standalone one-acters about sex. Firstly a tale of a sex robot created to service his mistress’s needs; next a tale of a dominatrix and client; lastly a swingers’ evening. Well-performed by the cast and neatly conducted by Dean Williamson, the music is tonal, bouncy and jazzy, scored for a small ensemble. David Cote’s libretto is what passes for sophisticated and racy: I found it rather juvenile and nudge nudge wink wink. The more musically catholic reader may remember a vulgar novelty song from the 1980’s called ‘We’re having a gang bang, we’re having a ball’. I cannot claim any more stylistic elegance or elevated wit on behalf of Three Way.
