The focus of this CD is this Austrian church’s new two-manual, 14-stop Flentrop organ, on which Dick Koomans plays a carefully chosen programme proving just how versatile a small, well-built organ can be. The range of tonal colours is well projected, beginning with settings of Psalm 116 by Le Jeune, Goudimel, Van Noordt and Koomans himself. Chorale settings by Bach, Pachelbel and Koomans demonstrate the singing qualities of the instrument, while Muffat’s and Buxtehude’s Passacaglias sound splendid. Eighteenth-century south German composers Eberlin, Kolb and Albrechtsberger complete the programme. No doubt this parish church will enjoy such a beautiful and inspirational instrument.
