Performed by the ensemble founded by Northern Irish composer Ed Bennett in 2003, this is high-octane music that pounds away, demanding the listener’s attention: right from the off, ‘Suspect Dance’ will not let go. Although ‘Sometimes Everything Falls Apart’ begins quietly, it embodies a disquiet that eventually grows into an uneasy, hammered conclusion.

A concerto for violin and ensemble, ‘Heavy Western’ runs the gamut from visceral dialogue to haunting musings and is given an expressive performance by Decibel member Barbara Lüneberg. The quiet atemporality of ‘Slow Motion Music’ offers contrast. The titular track, ‘Togetherness’, makes use of electronic sine tones, its slow and haunting elaborations underpinned by long crescendos, cradling a sense of the inevitable. A perfect complement to NMC’s disc of Bennett’s My Broken Machines.
