There is a slightly odd juxtaposition here: showcasing music from 1951 to 2015 on a new organ by Dell’Orto & Lanzini (2011) built in a 17th-century style. However, with a number of compositions here being retrospective in terms of reinventing older musical forms, the style and character of this instrument lend charm and clarity to music such as Ligeti’s Musica ricercata and Petr Eben’s Hommage à Dietrich Buxtehude. There are some really interesting, more experimental, works here – Pier Damiano Peretti’s Florete flores takes advantage of the meantone temperament. A welcome inclusion is Graham Fitkin’s Watching, featuring Gianpaolo Antongirolami on soprano saxophone.
