Known in English as Requiem for Fallen Brothers, Kastalsky composed this unique hybrid work during the first world war with the aim of uniting the nations and faiths allied with Russia. Roman Catholic, Anglican and Orthodox concepts make unlikely allies, but spiritual integrity characterises this extraordinary historic document. Alexei Rudnevsky is on a mission, and his passionate dedication to Kastalsky’s vision shines through this intensely gripping live performance of the version for soloists, choir and organ, combining persuasive performers from France, Germany, Austria and Russia. The booklet is in French and Russian, but there’s plenty of information in English online.
