This is an auspicious debut album of Owain Park’s music, sung by the Choir of Trinity College Cambridge – where Park was senior organ scholar – under the direction of Stephen Layton. The CD’s 15 short pieces give a good idea of Park’s range as a choral composer. He is eclectic in style, drawing on a wide range of different music for inspiration – Gregorian chant, Greek Orthodox liturgy, folksong – but always fashioning something fresh. Under Layton, Trinity College Choir is in very good shape indeed, and this ravishing CD continues the high standards of their recent releases on Hyperion. Warmly recommended.
