The range of expressive and dynamic possibilities with the human voice never ceases to fascinate, and pretty much the whole choral gamut appears in this round-up of recent discs. There’s an honest directness to the singing in Apollo5’s collaboration with the Slovenian Ingenium Ensemble for The Spirit like a Dove in the world premiere recording of Josquin’s disputed Missa Quem dicunt homines. The two ensembles meld with musical and emotional maturity in what may mark the beginning of a remarkable musical marriage, and a rich bloom to the acoustics supports the voices without compromising clarity.
