This is Bach with a French rather than a German accent, but the young conductor Valentin Tournet has absorbed all the available research into performance practice and delivers wonderfully vivacious performances with the ensemble he founded in 2017. The soloists sing the choruses and the players dance their way through every movement. Historical interest is provided by the presentation of the Magnificat in its original E flat major version (BWV 234a) and it is preceded by an appropriate Christmas cantata, Christen, ätzet diesen Tag BWV 63. I loved it.
