A richly rewarding programme that presents relatively unknown Schumann along with a key work by Holliger himself, Romancendres for cello and piano. This is a bold and ultimately moving piece that repays repeated hearings when the performance is as fine as it is here. Holliger the soloist is in fine form in works by Schumann, and the recorded sound is splendid. The dedication to Holliger’s late wife, Ursula, is as moving as it is apt.
