A debut release on the choir’s own imprint. If there’s a fault, it’s possibly an understandable desire in the circumstances to show off as many of the ensemble’s dimensions and capabilities as possible, with a programme that ranges from an arrangement of Grieg’s ‘Solveig’s Song’ to more obscure contemporary material. All of it, though, is entirely personalised and accommodated by a choir that holds off from the avant-garde, but always manages to give vernacular and classical material an air of genuine profundity. No compromises to non-Swedish speakers in the beautifully designed booklet, enlivened by Maria Helje’s line-drawings. The sharp-eyed will notice jazz bassist and composer Anders Jormin, an ECM stalwart, in the instrumental credits.
