An attractive but somewhat capricious selection of Janácek’s choral work, with only one male chorus, The Dove, from a group of three written in 1880 and unknown until 1956. The Wild Duck (1885), one movement of the cycle Songs of Hradcany for soprano, flute and female chorus, and The Wolf’s Trail for female chorus and piano are welcome, as is also a fine performance of the Elegy on the Death of my Daughter. The major component on the CD is Nursery Rhymes, 19 arrangements in a version by Erwin Stein for singers, viola, flute and piano. The recital includes Alain Planès playing In the Mists.
