Pawel Łukaszewski is one of the most important composers at work in Poland today. On the strength of this second volume in a series of his sacred music from Dux, he can also lay claim to being an important European voice. His distinctive, neo-tonally accented signature benefits here from performances by an all-Polish contingent. The obvious beauty of the music is both delicate and robust, sophisticated a cappella choral textures and simple harmonies calling to mind late Górecki and Pärt, flatteringly so in the startling Stabat Mater for three female choirs and luminous Veni Creator fordouble, mixed-voice choirs. The haunting organ solo Icon and characterful strings-accompanied Organ Concerto offer highlights of their own on a disc well worth investigating.
