This is vol.6 of Naxos’s complete recording of Scheidemann’s organ music, played by Brazilian organist Julia Brown on a modern organ tuned at A440 in Kellner’s ‘Bach’ temperament. The programme is imaginatively constructed with differing genres well juxtaposed. The playing is clean, well schooled, with authentic technique, but with little personal imagination. This is a tendency I have noticed with many CDs emanating from the USA, almost as if a single international style of organ playing is becoming the norm. I am sure that a wider range of imagination, excitement and emotional intensity could be generated from performing this music.
