These three Chandos Anthems – O come, let us sing unto the Lord, As pants the hart and I will magnify thee, O God – are sung by the Trinity choir with well-projected diction and vibrancy of tone (i.e. vibrato in all voice parts), which contrasts with the pure sounds of the OAE, although the resulting blend is highly satisfactory. Soloists’ contributions are fine, with Thomas Hobbs’s mellifluous tenor blending effortlessly with the strings. Tempi and dynamics sound natural and well judged, and ensemble is neat and tidy. The OAE give excellent performances with their stylish sense of phrasing that sound second nature.
