What might you expect from a disc of new liturgical music from Slovakia based on, or related to, Gregorian chant? Like me, possibly not the fascinatingly wide range of a cappella works, some resistibly beguiling and others radiating spiritual intensity, championed by this excellent group of amateurs, engaging with twin technical and devotional demands with poise. Finely balanced and blended with accurate intonation, their manner is gentle and reflective in the main and it’s almost entirely worthy of repeated listening. These are all Latin settings, so there’s no impediment to performances by UK choirs.
