This showcase recording for Reuter’s 2010 IV/90 gets the instrument interpreting everything from Guilain (a ‘tierce en taille’), Bach (Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr) and Bruhns, through Gigout and Saint-Saëns and some effectively registered Karg- Elert Cathedral Windows, to later American pieces. It is these that perhaps convince best: Sowerby’s beguiling Carillon complete with chimes and celesta (there are also a Cymbelstern and Nightingale on the stop list), Dudley Buck’s inventive Home, Sweet Home variations and George Shearing’s syrupy Amazing Grace. Enjoy this new all-American classic organ for its extreme smoothness, plus Scott Montgomery’s persuasive interpretations.
