In his sleeve notes, Paul Derrett writes a paean to this IV/50 organ, completely rebuilt by Harrison & Harrison in 1929, in which he alludes to the inspirational qualities of this vintage instrument and the repertoire it was designed to play. Derrett’s own playing is full of clarity and the recording betrays every detail of the music. The instrument nearly always delivers in an imaginative programme including Delius, Lemare, Herschell, Schumann, Karg-Elert, Jongen and Hollins. There is little-known repertoire here too, written for this particular organ, which matches its character so well.
